Sources of funding in Wiltshire

Wiltshire Council is keen that regardless of your business or organisation type, and whether your needs are around funding, support or business skills needs, there are sources of help available to help you succeed and grow in business.

The council's economy and regeneration service provides free information portals that can help organisations and entrepreneurs access a range of funding options.

We provide the Wiltshire Business Support Service which advises businesses and people thinking of starting up an enterprise about business skills, business planning and funding. For more information contact the Wiltshire Business Support Service operated by Wessex Chambers or call them on 01225 355553.

Regularly updated sources of on-line funding support are available at:

  • Open 4 Business helps businesses seeking grant funding, business support or help with workforce skills and training.
  • Open 4 Social Enterprise a specialist portal for social enterprises providing comprehensive funding information from various sources such as trusts, foundations, government departments, agencies and the European Commission.
  • Open 4 Community voluntary and community groups can search for funding for a project or initiative.
  • Business Link operates an online service including information on obtaining finance and grants.

Obtaining a grant often means developing a business plan. Seeking advice whilst making an application is strongly advised as very few schemes operate under the same rules, have the same eligibility criteria or accountability requirements.

Many grants available in Wiltshire are coupled with specialist advisors who can help organisations obtain funding such as with the Wiltshire Business Support Service.

The Enterprise Network makes rural economy grants to growing rural micro-businesses and innovating food and drink processing businesses in the area. The grant scheme is open to businesses who can contribute their own funds to grants, which go from £10,000 upwards. The funding scheme closes in March 2014.

The Fredericks Foundation provides loans to small businesses struggling to obtain credit.

Community First provides information and advice on the various schemes, especially to Social Enterprises and community groups for business loans, grant schemes, funds for village hall improvements and the landfill tax grant scheme.

The Wiltshire and Swindon Community Foundation manages a range of local funding schemes as well as national funds such as Comic Relief.

The Wiltshire Council Area Board Grant Scheme can provide grants for community projects up to £5,000 to community groups, town and parish councils.

Lastly, the Economy & Regeneration service publishes two monthly funding bulletins - a business funding bulletin at the beginning of the month, and a community-focused bulletin mid-month.
